Nathan Hirayama had scored all of the Bears' points in their 12-8 semi final win over the Ontario Blues and the Canadian international fly half did the same against the Jaguars with a try and two penalties in With Argentine sides renowned for their forward strength, it was perhaps surprising that the Bears elected to take them on up front rather than work around this advantage and for the first half the tactic appeared to work. Building for the future
This was a sentiment echoed by Mark Egan, the IRB's Head of Development and Performance who was at Fletcher's Fields to witness the conclusion of the inaugural Americas Rugby Championship.

This victory came after a win in a Seven-a-side match against the visiting civil servants from England, seven tries to five, on Tuesday at the Comprehensive Secondary School Ground. ![]() A player with HMS Iron Duke gets rocked following a devastating tackle from a St Lucian player during Tuesday’s rugby game at the Corinth Playing Field in St. Lucia.
The sailors went ahead early in the match by scoring three points from a penalty which only served to spur on the St Lucia team who quickly respond with a try (five points) and conversion (two points) of their own. At the end of the first half, St Lucia was leading 36 points to 10, having scored five tries, four conversions and one penalty against the sailor’s one try, one conversion and one penalty. Scoring was less prolific in the second half where St Lucia scored only one try and one conversion, while HMS Iron Duke was able to add only one more try to their tally. Colvis Samuels of St Lucia led the scoring for the local team with 13 points through five conversions and one penalty, while Jerry Charles and Bert Jean scored two tries each. Originally formed in March 2001, under the name of North America and West Indies Rugby Association (“NAWIRA”), NACRA is one of the six iRB regional associations. NACRA is the governing body of the thirteen Unions in North America Caribbean Rugby Association. It’s membership is diverse and currently includes, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, St Lucia, St Vincent and The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and the USA. NACRA is currently administered by a five Member Executive Committee, selected / elected as follows: Category A Member : Canadian representative The current Executive are: Bob Latham : President (USA Rugby) NACRA’s day to day administration is carried out by it’s duly appointed Administration Officer, Niall Brooks and regional development by Scott Harland, NACRA’s Regional Development Officer.
