22nd March 2007 : Six Nations Video Highlights

Here is some fantastic video footage provided by the Official RBS Six Nations Website. The quality is excellent and if you can put up with some drab commentary (which gets better three weeks in) then you'll love it.

Each match has 15 minuntes of highlights, so give yourself plenty of time.

Youth players who have not had many opportunities to watch first class rugby should definitely watch these clips.

Laporte hails French spirit

France head coach Bernard Laporte believes the spirit fostered in his title-winning squad over the last seven weeks vindicates his decision to convoke a 40-man party for the recent RBS 6 Nations Championship.

Laporte was not able to live up to his pre-tournament vow of giving every member of his squad at least one game in the competition in the hope of seeing as many players as possible in the run-up to the World Cup later this year.

A combination of injuries and a desire to keep his first-choice team intact to maintain a Grand Slam momentum put paid to that.

But Laporte believes almost two months of continuous training and bonding at Les Bleus' custom-made training camp in Marcoussis, a village 20km south of Paris, has helped mould his group into 'one little family'.

O'Sullian hopes luck of Irish changes

Eddie O'Sullivan claims Ireland's anti-climatic RBS 6 Nations was undermined by a run of bad luck that he hopes will be evened out during the World Cup.

France retained their crown on points difference alone with a dubious late try from Elvis Vermeulen, awarded by the television match official, edging them past Ireland.

O'Sullivan believes the decision to allow the try was an example of Ireland's lack of fortune during the championship.

'We thought we had won the Six Nations until the final seconds in Paris. It was a tough, emotional tournament,' said the Ireland coach.

'I've always said the Six Nations is a tough competition to win. You need to play well and be lucky with injuries, which overall we were as we kept a pretty healthy profile.

Andrew buoyed by England future

Rob Andrew believes England have finally emerged from the shadow of the 2003 World Cup win and have a very bright long-term future.

England's director of elite rugby was reflecting on an RBS 6 Nations campaign of mixed success - three home wins, two away defeats but the best red rose performance in the tournament for three seasons.

There are still major issues head coach Brian Ashton needs to address over the next six months, particularly in the forwards where the traditional strength of England's game has been at least partially eroded.

But Andrew is convinced England are entering an exciting new era after young players like Nick Easter, David Strettle, Shane Geraghty, Tom Rees and Toby Flood all emerged to make their mark on the international scene.
