21st October 2007 : Kurt joins Coventry's 100 club

Winger Kurt Johnson joined an exclusive group of Coventry players when he scored his 100th try for the club in Saturday's 43-16 victory over derby rivals Moseley.

The Barbados international, one of only four players to have reached 100 league tries in senior rugby, became the 13th player in Cov's 133-year history to hit the century mark and the first since Graham Robbins in 1985.

"It's nice to get there," said 30-year-old Johnson, who went in for the third of Coventry's six tries at the Butts Park Arena. "Landmarks are important to me and drive me on as a player.

"Now I want to get to 100 league tries for Coventry - I'm on 93, so hopefully I can do it this season.
"If I'm playing well and scoring tries, especially on the wing, it means that Coventry are winning matches."

Coventry were 10-0 down after 45 minutes, but came back to lead 15-13 at half-time before pulling clear.

"They gave us a challenge but fortunately we managed to climb our way back in and get a foothold," said Johnson.
"We realised that if we increased the tempo and were more direct we could find the space, and it worked."

Coventry winger Kurt Johnson achieved one career landmark last Saturday when he scored his 100th league try and he has now set his sights on another, making his first appearance at Twickenham.

The Barbados international became only the fourth player in National League history to make the ton, when he crossed two minutes after coming on as a tenth minute blood replacement in the National League One defeat by Bedford Blues.

Johnson, who was given a standing ovation by the Coventry faithful, followed Nick Baxter (Worcester, Pertemps Bees and Stourbridge), Eddie Saunders (Rugby Lions) and Dave Scully, Doncaster's former Wakefield, Rotherham and Otley scrum-half, into the record books.
