He's one of Wales’ all-time rugby greats, but is probably best remembered for describing a try scored by another.
Cliff Morgan was in the commentary box when Gareth Edwards scored arguably the greatest try of all time, for the Barbarians against the All Blacks at the Arms Park in 1973.
His words “What a score!” as the scrum half crossed the line have since gone down in rugby legend, and last night the man who uttered them was rewarded for a lifetime of sporting achievement.
Prominent figures from the worlds of broadcasting and sport paid tribute to Morgan as he received a lifetime achievement award at last night’s BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year awards, at which Joe Calzaghe was named as the overall winner.
