Rugby Sevens is the complete development tool for players, improving their core skills as well as developing them holistically as they are forced to perform in highly pressured environments.

The aim of the Bahamas National Sevens programme is to provide a route for our more dedicated and capable players to refine their rugby skills through regular exposure at an international level.

By developing our top players to a high enough standard they become attractive to clubs in established rugby playing nations who will hopefully offer them the chance to play overseas. The National Sevens Program notes the following recent successes:

Kevin Salabie

(Age 22)
West Indies

Select 7’s
Cayman, 2005

Jeremico Cooper

(Age 22)
West Indies

Select 7’s
Cayman, 2006

Devon Woodside

(Age 22)
Playing for

Luctonians
Midlands 1 League,

England

During the next calendar year, The Bahamas National Sevens team will be traveling to the following tournaments:

Caribbean Sevens Championship Barbados November 2006

Cape Fear Sevens Tournament
N. Carolina, USA July 2007

Seaside Sevens
Worthing RFC, England August 2007
Cwmtawe 7’s* Swansea, Wales August 2007

(*I'm definitely coming to this on - Ed)

The total anticipated cost of attending these tournaments is in the region of $25,000. Player contributions are usually no more than around $5,000 as the bulk of the squad are from low income. The remaining $20,000 will need to come from grants, donations and sponsorship.

A very successful day's rugby and one which will be long remembered by all who attended. this tournament will unquestionably become a regular feature on the Bahamas Rugby calendar.

SPecial thanks to Freeport RFC who travelled down for this event. It should be noted that their excellent team was badly depleted by early injuries, particularly to Gio Rolle and Jackelo Pierre, two of their National team regulars.

Congratulations to Cuckoos RFC for winning the event and becoming Bahamas National 7s Champions
