Search22nd October 2009 : St Lucians torpedo HMS Iron Duke in rugbyThe St Lucia senior male rugby team continued its winning ways when the local lads defeated sailors of the HMS Iron Duke, 43 points to 15, on Tuesday at the Corinth Ground. The sailors went ahead early in the match by scoring three points from a penalty which only served to spur on the St Lucia team who quickly respond with a try (five points) and conversion (two points) of their own. At the end of the first half, St Lucia was leading 36 points to 10, having scored five tries, four conversions and one penalty against the sailor’s one try, one conversion and one penalty. Scoring was less prolific in the second half where St Lucia scored only one try and one conversion, while HMS Iron Duke was able to add only one more try to their tally. Colvis Samuels of St Lucia led the scoring for the local team with 13 points through five conversions and one penalty, while Jerry Charles and Bert Jean scored two tries each.
