The Cayman sevens programme has seen huge growth over the past three years, having never been any kind of strength regionally in rugby sevens, many youth players have been involved over the past few years and many are now maturing into excellent seven players.

The likes of Josh and Joel Clarke along with Robbie Cribb, Edward Westin, Michael Wilson and Justin White have all been heavily involved in the sevens, U19 and U20 academies and will be joined by sevens specialists Sean Murphy, Keswick Wright, Peter Harris and Jon Doak.

Wallace Lyttle and Andrew Ibeh will also be making their first appearances in Cayman jerseys for rugby, both having been well know as Cayman track athletes they are successfully making the transition to rugby sevens.

The programme has now been developed into an 11 year progression leading up to Olympic games in 2016 and 2020 assuming that rugby sevens is re instated in two weeks.

Along the way are a number of tournaments that Cayman needs to build toward, qualify for and do well in and these include, Youth Commonwealth games, Commonwealth games, CACSO games, World Sevens Series games and PAN AM games, the Mexico tournament this year will see the winner move forward to three of these tournaments in 2010.

The first is the World Sevens Series in Las Vegas in February where the team will be involved with the top 12 teams worldwide.

Next will be the CACSO games in Guyana in July along with the 2010 NACRA games that double as the 2011 PAN AM game qualifiers.

Finally, comes the Commonwealth Games in Delhi and so Mexico looms large for the Cayman squad that will be wanting to show vastly improved levels or performance from last year when they finished fourth behind Guyana, Trinidad and Bermuda.
