Senior Education Officer at the Ministry of Education Keith Saunders, strongly advocates diversity within the Government Secondary Schools Sporting Association (GSSSA), and endorses the Physical Education (P.E.) teachers' participation in an ongoing International Rugby Board (IRB) coaches and officials' certification clinic.

Last week, at least 50 P.E. teachers attended the third of an eight-week long certification clinic conducted by the Bahamas Rugby and Football Union's (BRFU) National Development Officer, Andy Dixon. The clinic that is being held on Saturdays at the College of The Bahamas' campus saw the teachers learn the basics of the game and participate in handling and passing drills. They also got the opportunity to review footage of the National 7's Men's team playing in a 2008 international tournament hosted at the Winton Rugby Pitch.

The teachers also heard from current players Garfield Morrison, Devon Woodside, Tyrone Major, Edrico Hanchell and Kevin Salabie. They spoke about how rugby had effected their lives, given them travel opportunities and why it is such a great sport for young people.

According to Saunders, several of the teachers expressed interest in attaining level one certification. The teachers who become certified, in return, would be able to use their additional rugby knowledge to improve their respective high school teams' skill levels. He noted that the response from the teachers who attended the first clinic was favorable.
