Search16th January 2009 : Myron Rolle makes the right choiceNot exactly a rugby story but a good one about a Bahamian athlete. Besides, he's going to Oxford where he could get a sporting blue by playing rugby..... Score another one for the good guy. Myron Rolle, the Florida State safety who won a Rhodes Scholarship in November, is taking it and delaying his entry into the NFL. Monday night, Rolle told the New York Times he will attend Oxford University for a year and enter the NFL draft in 2010. To much fanfare, Rolle won the prize Nov. 22 and raced to a game later that night, making it in time for the second half. According to the Times, he had submitted his paperwork to the NFL and received feedback that he would be among the top 49 players chosen, perhaps even higher if he ran well at the scouting combine. That would mean a signing bonus well into the seven-figure range, but Rolle is putting it off so he can study medicine in hopes of eventually opening clinics in the Bahamas, where his parents come from. "I'm very excited to go," he wrote to the Times in a text message. Source: Mercury Times Categories: General Information |
