The Trinidad and Tobago Rugby Union (TTRFU) are to shortly undertake a nationwide talent identification initiative.

The move is aimed at building a talent pool that will qualify a T&T 7s rugby team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, 2011 Pan Am Games, 2013 7s Rugby World Cup, and should rugby be admitted, the 2016 Olympic Games.

According to a release from the local rugby organisation,

"in an effort to significantly increase its coaching resource, the TTRFU will stage IRB Level One and Level Two coaching courses from November 19 to the November 25."

The course content will be adapted to address local needs.

TTRFU officials said that community rugby is an essential aspect of the national rugby union's development and talent identification programme but admitted that the TTRFU does not have the coaching resource in place to support the community initiative.

TURFU president Dave Wong confirmed that the upcoming course is

"extremely important for the TTRFU."
"The upcoming coaching course is necessary because we intend to have only trained persons involved in our development and community programmes," he said.

The upcoming IRB Course is open to persons interested in coaching rugby. IRB Staff coach Nigel Davies is the course instructor.
