An amateur rugby side had a trying time – when dreaded All Black Jerry Collins turned out for the other team.

The fearsome 17-stone flanker agreed to play for a local 2nd XV while on holiday in Britain.

Butchers, brickies and builders facing 6ft 3ins ringer Collins – known as The Terminator – crumbled as he scored a storming try and made a series of crunching tackles.
The ace, 26, helped Barnstaple to a 21-7 away win against Newton Abbot in a Devon league – even though he sportingly avoided his fiercest tactics and went off after 55 minutes.

Samoan-born man mountain Collins was on a break in Devon after the World Cup when he bumped into Barnstaple director Kevin Squire.

Builder Kevin, 45, said:

“I invited him to watch a game. He came and even coached our under 14s.
“I said we had a match coming up and he showed up with new boots.”

Newton Abbot coach Phil Burford added:

“It’s not every day someone of his stature plays at your club.”
