Northern get past Caribs in Minshall Cup
Stag Trinidad Northern remained on course for the Sportflex League and Marcus Minshall Cup double with a 27-7 first round win over arch-rivals and defending Marcus Minshall knockout champions Caribs Rugby Club over the weekend.
In other first round knock out action, Harvard overcame Police 26-17, while Royalians whipped UWI 56-0.
The Marcus Minshall Cup quarter-final round is scheduled for this weekend.
In response to the debate about Caribs and Trinidad Northern having to meet in the first round, Trinidad and Tobago Rugby Football Union (TTRFU) Fixtures Committee chairman Leslie Figaro confirmed that earlier in the year all TTRFU clubs were invited to a fixtures committee meeting to decide on the schedule and the format for the 2007 Marcus Minshall Cup.

"Some clubs did not attend. However, the clubs present decided that there will be no seeding of teams. All the names were then placed in a hat and the draw made."

In other rugby news, the T&T national 7s men and women training squads for the upcoming NAWIRA 7s rugby championship will be announced this weekend.
TTRFU Selection Committee chairman Curtis Nero said the national players were informed they are required to take personal responsibility for their fitness.

"The tournament will be held on November 17 and 18 in Bahamas. That gives us just over a month to sharpen and fine tune technique and tactics," said Nero.
