The Touch Rugby World Cup is going on in Stellenbosch, South Africa amid increasingly hot and humid weather.
The South African teams once again recorded mixed results. The men's team enjoyed an early 11-1 win against Scotland and then came up against the formidable New Zealanders who achieved a resounding 16-4 victory. It was same all round for the ladies who scored a good 5-0 victory over Scotland and then lost 15-1 to their New Zealand counterparts.
The tournament is beginning to take shape and it is clear that Australia and New Zealand are going to be fighting it out in most of the division finals.
However, the knockout games at the completion of the round robin matches always provide opportunities for surprises and the South Africans will no doubt be fighting hard on home turf come the weekend.
Highlights included New Zealand squeezing out Australia in the mixed division 6-5 while Scotland bravely held on for a win against Singapore in the women’s division 4-3.
A big game to look forward to on Friday is the match up of Australia and New Zealand in the men’s division which is a repeat of the World Cup final in Japan in 2003. This takes place at 09h25.
