Anybody who attended the BRFU Gentlemen's Dinner last year will recall Willie John McBride telling us about his famous '99' call during the British Lions tour to South Africa in the early 70's.


The idea being that once the captain made the call, everyone on the team was supposed to go ape on the person nearest to them. Apparently, the call was originally 9-9-9 (the UK emergency services number), but he never managed to get the third 9 out, so it stuck at 99.
