GEORGETOWN, Guyana: The President of the West Indies Rugby Union, Kit Nascimento, announced on Wednesday the selection of a Select 24 member West Indies Rugby Sevens Squad in preparation for the participation of a Rugby West Indies Sevens Team in the forthcoming International Rugby Board’s Sevens World Series in San Diego, 10 and 11 February 2007.


The Squad was selected at the conclusion of the North American & West Indies Rugby Association Digicel Caribbean Championships which took place in Barbados on 11and 12 November, 2006, in which the Guyana Rugby Football Union defeated the Jamaican Rugby Football Union, 37-5, in the Finals.


The Select Squad includes 6 players from Guyana, 3 from Jamaica, 3 from Trinidad & Tobago, 4 from Bermuda, 3 from Bahamas, 2 from Barbados and 1 each from St Vincent, the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands. The full squad is listed below.


A Select West Indies Sevens Team will compete in the Trinidad & Tobago Enthusiast Carib Invitational Sevens to take place this Saturday and Sunday (2 and 3 December) in Trinidad & Tobago. The Select Squad is listed below.


Team Manager appointed by the West Indies Rugby Union for the Rugby West Indies Sevens Team is Curtis Nero of the Trinidad & Tobago Rugby Football Union and Head Coach, Joe Whipple, of the Barbados Rugby Football Union. The Selection Committee for the West Indies Sevens Team is the Team Manager, Head Coach and Jonathan Cassidy of the Bermuda Rugby Football Union.
