It has become aparent over recent weeks that there is a fundamental educational failing that afflicts a great number of rugby players in Nassau and I've decided that this season, I'm going to do my best to rectify the omission.

I don't know where you all were on the day they taught 'Telling the Time', but clearly you weren't in class.

Lesson 1: The Big Hand
Surprising as this may sound to some people, this is not a round of applause, but gives a big clue regarding the time. It tells us what hour it is. For example, if the 'Big Hand' is right on the three, that means it is probably three o'clock. Oddly, this has some meaning. Ie: if you're still in your car and its a Saturday, you've just missed kick off.

See how it works?

Lesson 2: The Little Hand
This one is more complicated and I fully understand how a lot of people struggle with the concept. What this hand does is, it breaks an hour up into smaller units called minutes. There are 60 in an hour. To help make my point, take a good look at the clock on the left. Can you tell what time it is?

Did you guess Four minutes past three? You did? Well done. Do you know what that means?
That's right, it means you're four minutes late for kick off.

Don't worry though, that's still better than you did last week.

Lesson 3: The Second Hand
Don't worry about this, its way too complicated. Its largely insignificant compared to the other ones. In reality, unless you're a 100m runner or setting a time bomb, you'll probably never need to use these.

This is great! I think I might need to share this to my own teammates, being as normal time and rugby time are two totally different things! :-)
