Those of us who were at Winton on that day in March when a Nassau Select side played a three game seriest against Columbia Business School will not soon forget the incident involving Alex Haugh, the 'Guy who should have Died'.

Alex was concussed in a midweek match, but didn't mention anything to his team-mates and played in the final game on Saturday, where his innitial concussion was compounded by another knock to the same part of his head.

Thanks to some quick thinking on the part of a few in the rugby community, coupled with a very efficient ambulance service and a well-prepped surgeon, Alex's life was saved.

We've just received an e-mail from him, in which he tells us that everything is going well. He's just finished a summer internship at Barclays Bank and they've offered him a job when he graduates in May.
He went on to say:

Being back in New York is great--it's football season, the weather cooled down a bit, and everything is working out. Not bad for someone who was in the hospital for a week just a few months ago, eh???!!! and for rugby, I'm not playing anymore due to the injury, but I am serving as a de facto "coach." We had 30 1st year MBAs show up for our 1st practice 2 days ago, far better than the 10 last year!

Anyway, thanks again for ALL your help in the Bahamas. It was a scary time for us, but everything turned out well. I'll let the guys on our rugby team know you say hello--and PLEASE spread word in Bahamas rugby that the American kid who got the concussions is doing well . . . and appreciates everything all of you did for us!!!

And the message?

Don't play through a concussion!
